Goblin King
Main Info
HP 65
Area Dark Caves

The Goblin King is one of the bosses of the Dark Caves.

Behavior[ | ]

Walks back and forth. Will summon goblins as soon as it notices the player.

Attacks[ | ]

Attack Description
Grab The Goblin King lunges forward, grabbing the first player in its path and throwing them far away, dealing damage if the player hits a wall.
Charge The Goblin King will pause for a second and then charge forward with its axe, dealing 14 damage to every player hit.
Stomp The Goblin King jumps up and down, stomping the ground 3 times and dealing contact damage while doing so. The screen shakes and the player will be launched about one block into the air if standing on the ground, enough to be killed by spikes.
Summon Goblins The Goblin King summons 2 smaller goblins to its aid. New goblins are summoned after the previous pair of summoned goblins die. The goblins do not drop any gold or give any experience.

Champion Variant Changes[ | ]

The champion variant has a purple coloration and is much more aggressive.

It attacks much faster with less downtime between each attack.

The boss will summon new goblins much sooner after the previous ones die or are not visible for long enough. There will only be two summoned goblins at a time.

Strategy[ | ]

Normal[ | ]

The first thing you'll want to do is deal with the 2 goblins he summons by killing them or luring them to a place where they can't reach the Goblin King. The Goblin King can re-summon the 2 goblins but he rarely does it and you can simply deal with them again if the Goblin King does so.

If the boss spawns in an area or pit with some spikes, you might want to wait for it to do some attacks. If it were to land on any spikes, they would break.

If the Goblin King raises its axe and you hear a sharp-sounding noise, it will go for the charge attack. This is its most damaging attack, dealing 14 damage. However this attack will stun it after hitting a wall, which is a good time to hit it with some attacks. It won't be stunned if it doesn't hit a wall but you can still get in a couple of hits before it goes for another attack.

If the Goblin King's axe disappears, it will go for the grab attack. This can potentially be its most dangerous attack, since if there are spikes nearby, it can throw you into them and instantly kill you. If you are thrown into a wall, you will take a flat 8 damage. If you land in water or don't hit a wall, you don't take any damage. You cannot use any freeze spells while being grabbed by it. However, if you are playing multiplayer, someone who is grabbed can be freed by another player by using a freeze spell on them. Any players freed from the grab will get stunned for a long period of time.

The Goblin King will lower its axe slightly before he does his jump attack. You can attack it during this attack, however it will put you at risk of taking damage yourself. Newer players would be advised to leave the boss alone during this attack.

Champion[ | ]

The champion version of this boss has a much lower cooldown between attacks and it will almost immediately summon more goblins if you kill them. You can no longer simply kill the goblins and smack the moving pinata until a key pops out.

There are 3 ways to approach killing this boss: 1. Kill goblins, attack boss, repeat. 2. Lure goblins away, attack boss, repeat. 3. Attack boss with goblins.

Option 1 is the most tedious way to kill the Goblin King. Both goblins have 16 hp and there are not many ways to attack both of them at the same time. Once you kill them, the Goblin King will usually just do 1 attack before summoning some more. Not to mention that you could end up taking damage if you make a mistake while killing the 2 goblins.

Option 2 is the simplest way of killing the boss. Juking the goblins is way easier and safer due to slower movement speed as well as having to stop in place while attacking. If done correctly, you may get similar windows of time to safely attack the boss before the goblins catch up. If they are too far away, the Goblin King may summon them again.

Option 3 is quick, since you don't deal with both separately. It is possible to avoid attacks coming from both while attacking the boss but 1 mistake can make you take a lot of damage, and some spawn locations may be enclosed enough to make this not a reasonable approach.

In multiplayer, you can make the goblins aggro on 1 player while the other player(s) deal with the boss.

Fighting the boss itself doesn't differ all that much, since none of the attacks themselves are changed. However, the cooldown between each attack is reduced. The grab in particular can very easily catch a player off guard. Expect to be able to get in 1 or 2 attacks safely between each of its attacks.
