About Vagante

Vagante is an adventure game on Kickstarter, and Steam Greenlight! It’s a platformer roguelike game; imagine Spelunky with RPG elements! Vagante is set in a dark fantasy world filled with Monsters, Demons, and Crooks. Despite these dangers, Adventurers commonly travel these unforgiving lands questing for Fame, Riches, and Power.

A recent rumor has it that a certain cave at the edge of the woods guards an unfathomable treasure. While a handful of intrepid adventurers have ventured into the cave already, none have returned. You on the other hand, know you’re different, and something draws you to these caverns. Undeterred by the potential danger, you set out by caravan to investigate...

Key Features

Vagante features a Character Class selection before the game starts. You can choose to play as one of several classes, such as the Knight, Rogue, or Mage. The class that you choose greatly affects the way the game is played. Knights are more geared to close-quarters-combat, while mages are purely offensive distance fighters. Rogues on the other hand can approach combat in a variety of methods.

We believe that the Combat in Vagante should be difficult, but fair. Enemies and Traps won't hurt you unless they look like they should. Damage-on-contact, a very commonly implemented game mechanic, is not a universal rule in Vagante. Units have attack animations, and players who are skilled enough can evade attacks!

The Magic system of Vagante is directly inspired by games such as Diablo & Castlevania. Players will find Scrolls, which produce a magical effect upon use before disintegrating. Reading Books on the other hand, will teach players Spells. The act of casting itself requires concentration and time. But if a mage has enough time and patience, spells are well worth the effort.

Additional Features

Affinities are an important mechanic in Vagante. Choosing certain affinities after leveling up will directly affect the way the game is played. Some affinities are reserved for specific character classes, while others are more general, and can be improved from any character class.

Since the game is procedurally generated, a major theme of the game is: “you never know what you’ll find next!” Consequently, you’ll find a wide variety of items and equipment throughout the game. Equipment in Vagante can often bestow drastically game-changing properties to the wielder. These properties include positive and negative effects, so choosing your equipment wisely is important.

Of course, there will be hordes of Monsters throughout the game. Choose your battles, know your environment, and defeat the enemies that stand in your way. Or perhaps, simply ignore them and move on. But beware though, there are powerful creatures which may prove to be more than just a handful.
